Find your Why! This sounds so basic, doesn’t it? But, friends, any successful person (in any sense of the word) will tell you that It Is Essential to know your Why in order to succeed!

What does that even mean?

Your Why is who you are. It’s what you do. It makes you, you. Your Why gets you out of bed in the morning. If you live out your Why to it’s fullest potential, it stops you from hitting Snooze as many times as you can get away with, and helps your feet hit the floor running with a great purpose and fervency (some days, only Coffee does this for me #real). Your Why gives you a reason to do what you do, day in and day out. It’s the passion that lights a fire in your soul and makes you come alive. It gives you a fresh gust of wind when things seem hopeless, and picks you up when life inevitably knocks you down, countless times. Your Why is your purpose in life, what you strive for. It makes you who you are and makes what you do evident to those around you. Your Why keeps you aiming for the goal. It’s the belief that what you’re doing is bigger than you, and it’s the very legacy that will live on long after you.

Your Why should not be hypocritical

What do I mean by this? Well, in his article, Dean Bokhari says “Your Why should be Evergreen, meaning that it should be applicable to everything you do, both personally and professionally without separation.” and this really resonates with me. As a Christian, I feel that one of the biggest things that keeps people out of the Church and distant from the body of Christ is hypocrisy. I’m not saying it’s right, and I’m not even saying it’s always founded in truth, but what I am saying is that if someone lives one way on Sunday, and then the other 6 days of the week you barely recognize them, there’s something hypocritical about that, no? Now, at the same time, we are all sinners so you won’t find a perfect person in church, or anywhere for that matter. Church is to the sinner as a hospital is to the sick. But it’s one thing that I believe is so crucial to focus on in any area of our lives. Being true to ourselves no matter where we are or who we are with. Our mantra, our mission statement, our Why should cloak every single area and crevice of our lives. It should be who we are, what we believe, and how we live and breathe. Our Why will be evident to anyone who knows or sees us if we live our lives in such a way. Remember, I am who I am wherever I am when I remember my Why.

Why Will Help You Focus

Can anyone successfully complete any major project without focus? It takes laser-like focus to sustain us and complete almost any task worth doing. Can you burn a piece of paper by lying it on the sidewalk in the sunshine, or do you need a magnifying glass to focus the light more directly, first? John F. Kennedy said “Efforts and courage are not enough without purpose and direction.” Say whaaaaat? Listen, you can try and you can do until you’re blue in the face, but if you aren’t aiming somewhere you won’t get anywhere, make sense? We need to Define and Make Clear our destination, Plan our course, and Make a Strategy to get there! This is SO IMPORTANT!

My Why was actually My Why before I even knew what it was or what that meant. It’s something I’ve lived by for a long time now, but didn’t put into words until (as silly as it sounds) I was writing my About page here on my blog. My Why is how I live my life, and why I do what I do, and yours should be too. (Did you like that rhyme? I’m a real life Dr. Seuss)

Aspire to live a life pleasing to God, exceeding all of your wildest dreams.“

Kelly Castiglione

*ahem* In layman’s terms please: I want to live my life (and help others to live theirs) that will please the Lord, in doing this I also want to follow my dreams and reach for the stars. How do I know that this is biblically sound? Psalm 37:4 tells us: “Delight yourself in the Lord, and He will give you the desires of your heart.”

What’s YOUR Why?

So now it’s time friends, time to figure out your Why and everything else will start to become clear. Is what you’re doing today getting you closer to where you want to be tomorrow? In 5 years? in 10 years? Set your navigation towards your goal, make a plan, and go Full Steam Ahead! Will it all come together like *snap* that? No, probably not… but, you will be setting something in motion and the momentum will propel you to continue on, to reach for more, to encourage others to do the same and to start living your best life – because TODAY is the first day of the rest of your life <3
